A group in India called the Nourishing Schools Foundation has been working to combat undernourishment and anaemia among adolescent women in the state of Rajasthan since the academic year 2023-24, the New York Times reports.

According to the Hindu, 21% of women between the ages of 15 and 49 in Sikar district were underweight and 20% were underweight as per their body mass index.

The group's work has since led to a "significant improvement in the health and nutrition status of young students, especially those ages 9 to 14, while demonstrating the impact of community-driven solutions," Archana Sinha, one of the foundation's co-founders, says in a press release.

To that end, the foundation has been handing out "toolkits" to schools, which include activities like making their own soap and growing their own nutritional garden.

"Besides addressing the specific needs for nutrition, the games and activities have connected the students with science curriculum, reading comprehension, and numeracy," Sinha says.

"Besides 73%, 92% of children reported increasing their consumption of fruits and vegetables, and 50% reported increasing their consumption of local herbs and greens," the press release says.

The students are also learning math, reading, and math skills, the Times of India reports. Read the Entire Article
