Us and Denmark Create $4.2M Floating Offshore Wind Opportunity

The US and Denmark are teaming up to try to cut the cost of offshore wind energy by 70% by 2035.

The Department of Energy's Wind Energy Technologies Office and Innovation Fund Denmark will each contribute $2 million to a $4.2 million joint funding opportunity to advance floating offshore wind, Phys.org reports.

The goal is to improve technologies that secure floating platforms to the sea floor.

"The climate challenge cannot be solved by one good idea or one company," says Under Secretary for Science and Innovation Geri Richmond.

"This effort supports the Floating Offshore Wind Shot, a target to reduce the cost of floating offshore wind in the US 70% by 2035."

The opportunity is expected to be released this spring.
