"We want to hear what matters most to you."

That's the message from the president and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation, which is hosting a series of community dinners across the state to hear what residents have to say about issues in their communities.

"Your input is a way for us to better understand how you see things in your community," David Cicilline says in a press release.

"These conversations will help us shape a path forward for the Foundation that we will share later this year."

The April 16 dinner in Newport is free and open to the public, the Newport Daily News reports.

The Foundation, which last year awarded $5.2 million in grants to Newport County nonprofits, will provide moderators to help guide the conversations, but participants will drive the discussions.

"We're giving people the opportunity to talk face-to-face with each other over family-style meals," Cicilline says.

"Bring your ideas for improving your community and the local challenges you'd like to see the Foundation address."
