A massive landslide in Bangladesh has killed at least 16 people and left more than 270,000 children living in the dark, Reuters reports.

Cyclone Remal slammed the country on May 26, bringing heavy rain and winds of up to 110mph.

Less than 24 hours later, a massive landslide buried a village near Dhaka, the country's capital, killing as many as 100 and leaving hundreds more missing.

The disaster is believed to be the deadliest single disaster in Bangladesh in decades.

More than a third of the nation's population of 160 million lives in low-lying coastal areas, where floods and landslides are common.

"The scale of this disaster is beyond anything that we have ever seen in Bangladesh," says an official with the country's Disaster Management Department.

"It is beyond anything that we have ever experienced in this part of the world."

In the US, there were more than 500 tornadoes in May, the most in at least five years, according to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy.

There were five tornadoes in Ohio on June 5, including five in Maryland, making Ohio's total tornado count for 2024 62, tying a record set in 1992. Read the Entire Article
