Celebrating Community Health Improvement Week

It's not every day that a hospital's mobile mammography van is making headlines, but that's exactly what's happened at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

The hospital's mobile mammography van has been making the rounds for the past five years, providing breast cancer screenings to women in the Cincinnati area, reports the Cincinnati Enquirer.

This year, the van has logged more than 4,000 screenings, and the hospital says it's on track to top last year's mark of more than 4,000, thanks in part to a new state-of-the-art CT scanner that's able to spot early signs of breast cancer.

Cincinnati Children's isn't the only hospital in the area to take advantage of the new technology.

The American Hospital Association's Community Health Improvement Network has named Adams County Regional Medical Center and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center among its winners of the 2018 Community Health Improvement Award for Excellence in Community Health.

The award is given to hospitals that make "a tangible difference in the lives of those they serve" by improving the health and well-being of their communities, per an ACHI release.
